I've included the presentation below.
Before that, though, I'd like to mention two of Brené's books, Daring Greatly and Braving the Wilderness. I've been in Daring Greatly for some time, hoping to truly absorb its message. It's about our willingness to remain in the fighting arena - that dangerous place of risk and blood and connection - by putting it all out there, all the time. It's about having the courage to be vulnerable again and again. It's about the messy stuff. It's about freedom. (And while I haven't yet read Braving the Wilderness, her new book, I'm looking forward to it!)
This is so important, friend.
So enjoy the TED talk, ask yourself the tough questions, and dare greatly in all you do!
Thanks for posting this, Brandon. This talk is excellent. I can't remember when it came out but I think I first saw it last September. I very much agree that vulnerability is vital to intimacy. I also agree with her emphasis on loving yourself enough to know that you are worthy of love. Self-deprecation is so rampant in our society and (in my opinion) in western religion. Viewing myself as worthy of happiness has been a big factor in my overall contentment as a person.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you.
ReplyDeleteAnd that was a great word to use - contentment (an important word). Our lack of being satisfied with something or someone has created so much pain in our lives and the lives of others. May we finally be at ease ...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hi Brandon! Yep, this is good stuff. I'm part of a group exploring relationship and doing life together using one of Brene Brown's books titled "The Gifts of Imperfection". We call ourselves Gals with Grit, Grace and Ghost. I've had major breakthrough, allowing the recapturing of those good parts of my inner child. Thanks for posting!
